Traditional & Historical Information
Clary Sage is native to Southern Europe and is now cultivated worldwide, especially in the Mediterranean region, Russia, the United States, England, Morocco and Central Europe. During the 16th century it was used in brewing and distillation processes by English beer and wine producers. A variety of Clary Sage is found in traditional Chinese medicine as a tonic for the liver and heart and for massage treatments. In Western medicine these associated blood tonic properties have been connected to efficacy in a range of conditions such as emotional upheaval, digestive upset, female hormone problems, fatigue, stress and insomnia. Massage application with Clary Sage is also indicated for treatments for varicose veins.
